Modified Tardieu Scale
The Modified Tardieu Scale may be used for children with neurological conditions or concerns relating to increased muscle tone. It assesses a muscle's response to stretch at different speeds and can provide information about dynamic muscle overactivity and limitations in passive range of movement. This information can be valuable for treatment planning, monitoring changes and communicating with the child's wider medical and rehabilitation team.
Beighton Score
The Beighton Score is used as part of an assessment for generalized joint hypermobility. It examines the mobility of specific joints and can help identify children who demonstrate increased joint flexibility. Where relevant, this is combined with assessment of strength, posture, balance, foot position, pain, fatigue and functional activities to understand whether increased joint mobility is affecting the child's everyday activities or participation in sports.
Goniometry
Goniometry is used to objectively measure joint range of movement. These measurements can help identify restrictions, increased mobility or differences between the two sides of the body and provide an objective baseline for monitoring changes following therapy, injury, surgery or other interventions.
